First release - August 1994 THE VERY BEST OF MIDI FOR THE GRAVIS ULTRASOUND by CF - ITALY feelings and suggestions to: an74500@anon.penet.fi - requires 1 MB RAM on GUS board - ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Yes, I know.... you've already seen so many MIDI compilations for the GUS: your first tought will be... "oh no ! not again..", but please, before you throw away the chance to listen to the REAL BEST, consider this: this file is a just a few hundreds kbytes long and it will need not so much effort to be got as others compilations (Megabytes long!)...; there're some really NEW songs (or at least I've never found them on the net - and I've been hunting high and low), and - last but not least - if you do own a GUS, you will not need to waste time in trying to make them sound well: just click-and-listen. The idea of making this compilation has come after downloading the four "BESTMIDx.ZIP" files that you can easily find on the net: I really was disappointed with the songs that were included: just a few classical pieces and one or two piano songs were REALLY good... the rest ... IMHO just crap: I mean that there were some good songs, but in an unmodified form (some didn't play at all on the GUS without modifications) and nothing really NEW. So, I carve out in my 20 Mb archive and I grabbed 15 great hits that I modified some time ago to play at best on the GUS. Note that I mean just a 1 Mb GUS: many (almost any) of these songs need 700-800 k of RAM to load the patches... Just a few words about the patches used in the songs: when I modified those MIDIs I kept in mind the original version of the song, trying to make the MIDI version as close as possible to that... but... here's the problem: some GUS patches sound really terrible - sometimes - (I mean expecially the Overdriven and Distorted Guitars and all the four SAXs) so the dilemma was: change the instrument played in this song or change the patch (using a better one..) ? I decided to use ONLY THE ORIGINAL GUS PATCHES, so that the songs will sound good for most of the GUS owners (at least those who still use the original patches...). Now, here are the songs: FILE TITLE against.mid "Agaist all odds" by Phil Collins all_that.mid "All that she wants" (is another babe) by ??? breakout.mid "Breakout" by Swingout Sisters brothers.mid "Brothers in Arms" by Dire Straits dethstar.mid Deathstar theme from StarWars i'llsurv.mid "I will survive" by Gloria Gaynor iwilllov.mid "I will always love you" by Whitney Houston lullaby.mid "Lullaby" by The Cure moonlite.mid "Moonlight Shadow" by Mike Olfield no_limit.mid "No limit" by (don't remember) selfcont.mid "Self Control" by Raf snap.mid "Rythm is a dancer" by Snap thatsw.mid "That's the Way (I like it!)" by ?KC & the Sunshine Band ??? whatislo.mid "What is love" (those disco groups seem all the same) yoursong.mid "Your Song" by Elton "the duke" John I just hope that you'll appreciate the effort... Se siete interessati mandate una mail a: an74500@anon.penet.fi e potremmo scambiarceli direttamente via e-mail (dopo il 15 settembre...) Ciao Carlo.
